The manual avoids name dropping any alien faction, and jump drive is an alien tech, makes it seem out of place, especially since its only mentioned once in the entire manual, and that too, without direct context over what it is

atleast, that's my line of reasoning.

I don't think the manual refers to anything aliens (other than the Quarg) in particular, while it clearly does refer to the jump drive. At that point, I don't think hiding the name serves any useful purpose. I think this change also makes the sentence more cumbersome to read.
The content of the game itself also doesn't seem to suggest that the name "jump drive" is some sort of secret, or unavailable to humans. If you do Checkmate, Alondo seems very aware of the name.

I wouldn't argue about the sentence being cumbersome to read, but the lack of context on the name, as I said, makes it feel out of place and maybe even inconsistent

Assuming people play fw campaign first, they wouldn't encounter the jump drive until the very last, which makes it, not so beginner item atleast, possibly even endgame item alongside nukes and cloaking device depending on how you look at it

It wouldn't be too far fetched to assume that the difference in alondo and FLs knowledge about such things is big, Alondo may know about it because he's leading a revolution, and FL is (likely) comparatively new to spacefaring, how did humans came to know about jump drives names feels like a plot hole for me to comment on
