Without any kind of appealing idea behind the project that
attracts people there would not be community.

Also a few minor edits.

Of course this this is only a proposal, open for discussion.

You have a good point there. This is important. I can't think of projects which don't have that.

One thing I'm wondering is how it relates to the shared vision. Is the one thing the spark and the other the fire? Is the one about the idea and the other about communicating the idea?

## Visionary idea

Even if the case that a real problem is tackled is far more often, there is still the chance for starting a project based on a complete new and innovative visionary idea.

Do you maybe have links to visionary ideas which sparked open source projects?

Or stories about this?

How can you reach that success? There are three key factors: **Form an idea**, **Produce good code** and **Be accessible to users and contributors**. This is what makes a good upstream open source project, a project which creates value to its users, a project which attracts people to work on creating this value together.

This is a work in progress. There are many stepping stones you can identify and we expect the collection to grow and become more detailed over time. It will never be an exhaustive list of everything possible, but we hope that this collection can be useful as a source for people to pick what resonates with them and build there own interpretation which suits their projects.
At first, there is the need for an idea to build the project around. Without a start that attracts other people to your project, there will never be an successful open source project. Successful ideas can be as diverse as menkind is. They do not need to be innovative or new, yet they can. The only measure here is if there is any other big or small group of people interested in it.

Successful ideas can be as diverse as mankind is. They do not need to be innovative or new, yet they can. They can be ambitious or not. They might be a crazy idea you have no idea if it work out, or it might be an already refined concept. The only measure here is if there is any other big or small group of people interested in it.
