How to add custom properties to the payload?

I'm using a custom payload handler with the data-before-send attribute.

I want to send a additional property user_role, but it does not show up in the session Properties tab in the Umami UI.
Does anyone know how to do that?

This is the code I'm currently using:

Username is set and the event is tracked?

Yes username is set and the event appears on the UI with it as the unique_id of the session, but without the role property.
