Thanos only starts backing up data from the moment the sidecar is installed. It does not back up data that existed in Prometheus prior to the installation of the Thanos sidecar [1]. I have a Prometheus deployment into an EKS cluster that has a retention period of 2 years.
I installed Thanos into this cluster. I'm using S3 as the object store that Thanos sidecar backs up data into.
Is Thanos supposed to backup all data it can find in Prometheus? Or does it only start backing up data from the moment the sidecar was installed?
