Subsequent app launches are slow due to automatic index update

I have more than 10000 photos on my phone. After the initial indexing process is complete, subsequent app launches still take 40 seconds at the Updating image index step. It looks like merely checking whether there are new photos can take a lot of time.

Even I have faced this. I love this concept that the app serves but this issue is keeping me from using this for me it takes more than 2 mins. I am inclined to look at the code base and understand what might be wrong.
