Link depth setting to button active state animation

Maybe it would be a good ideea to disable the transition of buttons in active state if depth setting is 0.

I see not using depth as a desire to have a flat design whick does not mix very well with buttons active animation.

I'm not sure if I understood the challenge.
Isn't it still "flat design"? It has no inner/outer shadow. The button moves down by 0.5px as feedback of being pushed but that's not against the idea of flat design.

I'm not sure also, it's more of a feeling that without depth the press effect does not look right.
