Possibility of using WeDo 2.0 Infrared Motion Sensor with CityHub

Hello, I am trying to come up with a solution to replace LEGO color distance sensor as these are no longer available to buy. My thought was to use WeDo 2.0 Infrared Motion Sensor with CityHub.

But it does not seem to work. When I try to identify the device using the example code from documentation I am getting output as "Port.A WeDo 2.0 Infrared Motion Sensor". But when I try to use the class of pybricks.pupdevices import InfraredSensor and then "ir = InfraredSensor(Port.A)" I am getting message that device is not connected. I thought it will be easy replacement but maybe the class is only for Powered Up devices ? But I have not seen Powered Up infrared sensor ever ?

If the sensor looks like this one, it should work.

If not, we might have a bug. Which Pybricks firmware version number are you using?

Also, there is a big market for used LEGO parts, like bricklink.com, if you want to buy more color distance sensors.

Ran your program here and it works OK.

The sensor does not show any light here too. (My infrared vision is very low 😉 )

Might it be a cable problem?
I am not sure, but identification might use other leads in the cable?

Given the output of the PUPDevice program, it looks like identification is working correctly. So it is strange that the InfraredSensor class is saying that it doesn't match.

We have had some other recent reports of errors like this though, so we may have some kind of hard to reproduce bug.

Much appreciated. Yes it is most likely the sensor issue - got the aftermarket one.

I have 15+ colordistance ones that work just fine but I need more now and I am stuck :-(

Ah, that would explain it. In Pybricks, we are often using "hidden" modes that the LEGO apps don't use in order to get the highest resolution information from the sensor. 3rd-party clones tend to only implement the modes that the official LEGO apps use.
