Close split scratchpad

When creating a new tab for a scratch pad, closing it is obvious. But when I have a split panel with a scratchpad, there doesn't seem to be a way to close the scratch pad without also closing the tab. Is there a way to close the scratch pad without disturbing the other part of the tab?

Ctrl-Shift-W.

Scratchpad is really just a test harness; we should not have released it for global use.

That closes the scratchpad but then crashes the entire app. I can live with the shortcoming if there's no good solution now. I think it has great value and a lot of potential.

I wasn't able to reproduce this under a debugger or pretty much anywhere, but @carlos-zamora could so he filed #20187 to track it.
