Description
In the sydney mesh we have quite difficult terrain where routers up high are a requirement in order to reach the mesh. An example is a link I just put in that links the central coast to the Sydney mesh (30km). There are about 5 nodes currently up there and in order to get to a sydney router the path is (central coast node) - (Staples lookout router) - (mt-colah router) - (Ansr router) - (Sydney node). This means best case it takes 4 hops to reach the sydney mesh without counting the rooftop nodes most people require to reach the routers. Currently on longfast the average is around 30% ch util. If the anz region changed or a new router_zero mode was added where these routers were not counted as a hop we would be able to turn our hop counts back down to 3 to preserve the client flooding issue. This may be a unique problem to the Sydney mesh as we are coving a huge area, currently canberra to central coast which is 330km and there around about 300 nodes total in this area. This differs to other meshes as we rely on routers to cover large distances but the mesh density is very low. The meshsense global map shows both the density and distances, but also the unreliable nature of these links due to the hop limit.
