Describe the bug

Hi, I have compiled this to run on the Latest Version of Android (14) and I am getting OBD data just fine. One thing I have noticed is when going into the OBD Data screen, the device keeps disconnecting and reconnecting.

Do you have any advice for why this behavior is occurring? I am using a Cheap ELM327 adapter, blue transparent version. Do you have any recommendations such as tested, known to work well hardware (Vgate iCar Pro? etc)

Also, I cannot get the dashboard to show. All OBD data sources are enabled but no dashboard or gauges etc show? Am I not doing something right here?

AndrOBD stores log files in a subdirectory on your primary storage device. (com.fr3ts0n.ecu.gui.androbd/log/AndrOBD.log.*)

Log detail level

The detail level of the logged debug information can be adjusted in the Settings > Development options > Logging level.

By default the detail level is set to INFO.
Preferred detail level for issue analysis is DEBUG. (Since V1.5.0 this level is called FINE)

Important details on your environment:

• Android OS version: 14
• AndrOBD version: latest
• OBD adapter type: Bluetooth ELM327 (link)
• Connected vehicle make, type, year, engine size: Toyota Corolla Axio 2013

Hi,
Thanks for your report.
Unfortunately the detail of the attached log file is INFO rather than FINE.
With current log details I can confirm then there is recurring state changes from Connected -> No Data -> Connected, but I cannot see what comminication caused these state changes.
Please could you attach a log file with AndrOBD set to loglevel >= FINE?

Since it is a self-compiled version:
Q: Does the same issue happen with the latest, released version (from FDroid)?
Q: Do you have a Branch / Fork available, which represents your changes?

I will test with the release from FDroid, the whole reason im using yours is I need to implement changes, and its open source, and after using it it is the most feature rich too.

I will try the Fdroid version and report back and also I will try get better logs.

I will be honest, I made the changes using ChatGPT.

I just tested on the build from FDroid, same thing happens.

Also could I ask, how do I get the dashboard to show the gauges?

For the Dashboard gauges select:

• OBD Data
  • Select >=1 listed data item of interest (by long pressing item(s))
  • Select display method from:
    • @drawable/ic_chart - graphical chart
    • @drawable/ic_speedometer - dashboard
    • @drawable/ic_headup - headup dash
    • @drawable/ic_filter - list only selected values

Yes, long press, i was also struggling with this. Were you using Android Studio to compile ? I’m looking for idiot proof instructions to compile, i keep getting errors and am hitting a brick wall. Many versions conflicts. I’m probably doing something wrong.

You may have updated some android dev / gradle packages (recommended by AS).
Bullet proof build works with unchanged build settings using configured build SDK.

Yes, you are right, tks. I'm struggling with all these different AS tools versions. AS suggested some updates and I just clicked on "accept". But I managed to compile the code and install the app on my Android 10 tablet. Awesome as I could not get to load with F Droid. I'm using AndrOBD as a learning exercise, so much to explore ! Are there any plans to revamp the UI ? I'm thinking about trying to add some buttons to send commands (i.e turn on trailer fan). How would you recommend to do this without doing too much damage ?
