Is fluentd dead ?

There have been no updates to the Google group in years, issues reported aren't ending in a solution/bug fix ? Is there nobody left to take care of bugs ?

No.
Many bug fixes and feature enhancements have been made.

Current active maintainers probably don't check the Google Group.
As far as I know, the following two are commonly used now.
