[Appender] Add support for MAP and UNION

Support for most types were added to the Appender in #110, with the following exception:

Almost everything from this issue (except MAP and UNION) is implemented now in the reworked Appender in 1.3.2.0

This issue is to request first-class support for MAP and UNION in the Appender.
