Do we have to have both Engine and App names in path?

Docs indicate that we have to have both an Engine, and an Application defined with paths.

If you call the Engine api and App abc you end up with a URL as such:

/api/abc/xyz
(where xyz is your resource path)

Is it possible to have just /api/xyz as the path?
