Feature Request: Allow reordering Site Groups and Sites in the Control Panel

Summary
Currently, Craft CMS does not allow users to reorder Site Groups or Sites within the /admin/settings/sites section. Both groups and sites appear in the order in which they were created. This limitation is especially inconvenient in multisite/multilingual environments where a consistent language order across groups significantly improves clarity.

Proposed Solution
Add the ability to:

• Drag and drop Site Groups to reorder them in the UI.
• Drag and drop Sites within each group to define their display order.

The order could be stored using a sortOrder column (like Sections, Fields, etc.) and reflected throughout the CP UI wherever Sites or Site Groups are listed.

Use Cases

• Multilingual sites where language order matters (e.g. French, German, English), especially when duplicated across multiple site groups/projects.
• Organizations managing many sites grouped by country or business unit, each with similar internal language structures.
• Editors managing content across projects where sites are named by language ("Français", "Deutsch", "English"), making the ordering essential to avoid confusion.

Example
In the UI, we may have two site groups:

E-Shop
- Français
- Deutsch
- English
- 
Default Website
- Français
- Deutsch
- English

Currently, this order cannot be guaranteed.

Benefits

• Improves clarity for editors and administrators managing many similar sites.
• Reduces errors by providing visual consistency.
• Aligns with other reorderable components in Craft (Fields, Sections, etc.).

Current Workarounds

• None in the Control Panel.
• Recreating Sites or Groups to change order is tedious and error-prone.

It’s possible to reorder sites if you select a site group first. We can consider making site groups sortable though!

How do you do that?

Go into Settings -> Sites, then click on a site group in the left menu. Then, move handles will appear for the sites in that group, and you should be able to drag them up and down similarly to how e.g. global sets are re-ordered.

Ah, of course. Sorry, I misunderstood. I’m indeed familiar with this trick, but it’s the site groups that I’m looking to reorganize. Directly changing the site group IDs in the database is probably not the best idea.

But, +100. I‘ve needed this feature for pretty much every multi-site I’ve built, that wasn’t a straightforward multi-lingual build. Have worked around it by using number prefixes for the site group names, as site selectors list groups alphabetically.
