Publication Guidelines: Describe Data Sharing and Provenance

I think the publication guidelines doc we just merged is fantastic! What I would like to see discussed/resolved in a future meeting are some guidelines around sharing of data, explaining the provenance of data used in reports, with particular attention to the steps from raw data through analysis. Where did we get the data? How? Was it verified/validated? How could another party explore the data.

Not sure if this is strictly necessary in every case, though I think credibility is greater to the extent these things are explained.

I’d love to contribute to this enhancement. I can start drafting a section for the publication guidelines that outlines best practices for data sharing and provenance — including steps like data source identification, validation, transformation processes, and reproducibility suggestions for third parties.

This is less about defining general publication guidelines and more about deciding how the CHAOSS Data Science WG would like to handle data sharing and provenance, so I think this is something that only someone active in the CHAOSS Data Science WG and the CHAOSS project could do. As Sean described in the issue, this is something we need to decide first in the WG before anyone can start working on it.
