android edge-to-edge on older navigation bar phone

anyone managed to handle those cases? i get an samsung galaxy S8 and the bottom tab using react-native-edge-to-edge package still shows the bottom-tab like the navigation bar was there. It seems to not be an issue in other parts of the app therefore why i post here and not on edge-to-edge

somehow i can't get the bottom safe area to disapear, my safeareaView has no edges. i tried Material2 and 3

My tab component using expo-dev and expo-router. edge-to-edge seems to be working fine on Ios and other more recent androids.
