It would be nice for the following to work:

dx = 0.1
Dxx = CenteredDifference(2,2,dx,N)
Dyy = CenteredDifference{2}(2,2,dx,N)
L = Dxx + Dyy
using BlockBandedMatrices
BlockBandedMatrix(L)
