Operator-pending mappings

I am going through Learn Vimscript the Hard Way. I have verified that some operator-pending mappings work fine, like this one:

onoremap H _
onoremap L $

With these ones I can do dH to delete all up to the start of the line, or vL to select to the end of the line.

But anything more complex involving :<c-u>normal! won't work. For example this one from the website:

onoremap in( :<c-u>normal! f(vi(<cr>

My questions are:

1. Is this a limitation of IdeaVim? Meaning, should I make a feature request? If so, what's exactly the problem?
2. Is there any way to make it work? I may be missing something.

Unfortunately, this is a limitation of IdeaVim. The :normal command doesn't work in Operator-pending mode. Specifically, the command is executed, but the generated motion/offset isn't applied to the pending operator. There are a couple of issues already raised: VIM-3383 and VIM-3509.
