Wade Harris

Wade Harris, better known as 'wadebraid' on-line, is a character in the Chronospace universe and the protagonist of 'Chronospace Dreamscape!'. He will play a protagonistic role in 'Chronospace Mojave!', aiding protagonist Jöel Kinnunen.

Personal details

Wade was born on May 26th, 1981 to unseen parents, making him "18 years, 221 months, 961 weeks, and 6,732 days" old during 'Dreamscape!', as stated in 'EXPLORER.EXE IS NOT RESPONDING'. (This is actually his age presented in different time standards, not the amount of months, weeks and days since his birth. The actual amount of time between his birth and October 31st, 1999 is 18 years, 5 months and 5 days.)

Wade is shown to have advanced knowledge of computers and how they work as demonstrated several times in the series, however other characters are shown to have more experience than him, most of which being antagonistic characters.

Sometime in 1991, Wade met Wallace Clark and Betty Kristoff while attending an orientation session, and befriended them. Their friendship is implied to be extremely strong, as they are all close during the events of 'Dreamscape!'. (Despite this, Wade did not appear to be affected by their demise on November 5th, 1999, though this was likely due to him being near-death himself.)

He has some sort of implied superiority over Wallace, as he often enacts authoritarian actions on him, often times being bullying him for his primitive taste in technology, though he did enact a physical action on him at least once during 'EXPLORER.EXE IS NOT RESPONDING'.

Before Dreamscape!

5 years prior to the events of 'Dreamscape!', in 1994, Wade learned of an incident in which Chronospace, a seemingly normal company, was broken into, becoming one of the biggest break-ins in digital history. An anonymous Internet hacker successfully breached their internal systems and leaked a multitude of assets relating to employee termination and resignation due to unwell working conditions. Being young at this time, Wade didn't think much of it, and ignored it.

In 1998, after Chronospace illegally absorbed the biggest tech companies, Wade caught onto the fact that something was wrong, and began periodically breaking into Chronospace's Dreamscape! Internet suite, learning more and more as he did. He successfully pulled off a major break-in on July 2nd, 1999, though he didn't find much of value.

Dreamscape!

In 1999, Wade, alongside his friends Wallace Clark and Betty Kristoff, attempted another major break-in, however he was stopped every time due to increasing security, but managed to get in on a few occassions. He attempted to circumvent a ban on October 31st, 1999 by using Betty's computer, however he was still blocked there.

Over the coming days, Wade spotted several silhouettes outside of his house, almost as if he was being watched...and he was.

As a result of his constant breaking and entering events, several "Scouters" were sent to Wade's house, with the intention of killing him, though none executed this intent.

On November 1st, 1999, Wade learned of Chronospace's true intentions through an e-mail message sent by a Chronospace tech support user, thephreakingsky. As a result, he began rallying a small community of Internet users to revolt against Chronospace, which he executed on November 5th.

Though the revolt was largely a failure as none of the atrocities they committed were publicized by most media outlets, it did result in Chronospace mostly diverging, with CEO Patrick Hobbs and most of the employees succumbing to a heat stroke caused by a hacked thermostat system, leaving the company to fall into obscurity.

Mojave!

In 2004, Wade narrowly avoided being killed in The Big Boom due to a power outage. Because of this, however, he remained blissfully unaware of what had just occurred until 3 hours later, when his power returned.

One year later, in 2005, Wade assists novice Internet hacker Jöel Kinnunen in breaking into Chronosoft's Mojave! software after another Boom event was attempted. He is implied to survive these events.

After Dreamscape! and Mojave!

Wade appears briefly in 2023 during the Epilogue of 'CONTROL + ALT + DELETE', revealing to the reader that he has since married and adopted an unknown number of children.

As the reader

He is the character, or 'vessel', that the reader sees the world of 'Dreamscape!' through, and is often presented as outright being the reader themself, only being referred to with first-person pronouns. Furthermore, the reader is credited as 'playing' Wade during the ending of 'CONTROL + ALT + DELETE, which solidifies this simple little Easter egg.

Always remember, Chronospace is upon us.
